OTAN Tech Talk February 2026: Canvas Mastery Paths: Differentiating Is Grating! (Uh, I Mean Great!)

Do you have students who struggle with a lesson, some who do okay, and others who sail through the lesson quickly and get bored? Solve that problem with CANVAS mastery paths! Participants will learn how to use mastery paths in the Canvas LMS to differentiate learning for students in the same class. Mastery paths provide a helping hand for students who need extra help and challenge those who find the lesson easy. It’s easy to set up in Canvas and will help to engage your students as each will be met at their appropriate level. The great thing is that all of the students end up with the same outcomes! Participants will be guided through a step-by-step demonstration of how to set up mastery paths in Canvas and plan their own mastery path assignment that they can take back to their class. (Note: A basic understanding of how to set up a Canvas course is recommended but not required for this presentation.)
