This workshop is designed to guide attendees through the basics of using a Macbook as a teacher. Topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Brief description of macOS, 
  • Location of settings and preferences for WiFi, volume, and the camera, 
  • Quick key options (i.e. open, quit, screenshots, etc.), 
  • Trackpad tips,
  • The Dock,
  • Installing apps and locating them
  • Location of main folders: Documents, Applications, Downloads,
  • Creating folders and organizing files,
  • Maximizing, minimizing, and closing windows, 
  • Location of the menubar when apps are open.

More may be covered depending on the length of time allotted for the workshop.


  1. Attendees must have basic computer skills.
  2. To fully participate, attendees should be using a Macbook during the workshop, 
  3. If virtual, attendees must have Zoom installed ahead of time and be able to open the workshop via a Zoom link.

An OTAN Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to those that have pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.

The desired outcome of every OTAN workshop is that participants will have a working understanding of the application or topics discussed and modeled.

OTAN workshops may be requested, customized, and scheduled by qualifying adult education agencies for their staff as targeted professional development.
