This workshop will cover how to keep yourself and your learners safe online. It is possible to use mobile devices, apps, and online tools effectively AND safely - you just need to know how.

This workshop will cover and provide guided practice on how to use mobile devices, apps and online tools effectively and safely. Topics will include:

  • the definition of an online or web presence include personal and professional presence, 
  • how to design and maintain a presence online,
  • detect and avoid scams such as pharming, phishing and smishing and smashing
  • become more aware of device settings to increase mobile safety,
  • show how to use the Internet safely, and
  • more topics as time allows and as questions are answered.

Participants are encouraged to have their fully-charged mobile device with them to follow along as different operating systems will be covered.

Prerequisites: Basic computer and internet skills. All participants will need a valid email address where they can access and sign in.

An OTAN Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to those that have pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.

OTAN workshops may be requested, customized, and scheduled by qualifying adult education agencies for their staff as targeted professional development.

OTAN workshops may be conducted as a "hands-on”, where participants are asked to provide their own devices, as “presentations” where a product or ideas are introduced, or as a discussion where all are encouraged to participate in a conversation around a specific idea or topic.

The desired outcome of every OTAN workshop is that participants will have a working understanding of the application or topics discussed and modeled.
