Description

This session covers how to keep teachers and learners safe when using devices on the Internet. It is possible to use mobile devices, apps, and online tools effectively and safely - we just need to know how.

Topics will include but are not limited to:

  • the definition of an online or web presence include personal and professional presence, 
  • how to design and maintain a presence online,
  • detect and avoid scams such as pharming, phishing and smishing and smashing
  • become more aware of device settings to increase mobile safety,
  • show how to use the Internet safely, and
  • more topics as time allows and as questions are answered.

As a workshop, this session will include guided practice on the topics above and participants will be encouraged to have their fully-charged mobile device/s in order to follow along as different operating systems will be covered.

As a presentation, following along on personal devices will be optional but also encouraged.

PREREQUISITES

All participants must have basic computer skills and a valid email address. Additional requirements may apply depending on the session and apps explored.

OTAN Certificates of Attendance are awarded only for workshop sessions to those that are pre-registered and attend at least 75% of the scheduled time.
