Description Description: The California Department of Education (CDE) and the California Adult Literacy Professional Development Project (CALPRO) are pleased to offer a Community of Practice training on Effective Teaching in Adult Education in Madera. This blended learning CoP incorporates both online collaborative work and face-to-face sessions. The module will introduce participants to the new Adult Education Teacher Competencies. Participants will become familiar with the four domains and seventeen competencies included, and apply the competencies to their own teaching in a variety of ways. The module is designed for all adult education instructors with at least one year of teaching experience, including ESL, ABE, HSE and CTE instructors. Teachers are encouraged to apply in pairs from the same site or program in order to have a local colleague with whom to discuss the content and compare notes on application.
Goals The goal of this module is to build teachers capacity to identify the skills and knowledge required for excellent teaching, evaluate in which areas they are strong and in which areas professional development could support improvement, and plan for increasing effectiveness of instruction.

Registration Information There is no registration fee to participate. Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Title II: Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (WIOA, Title II: AEFLA) funded programs are eligible to apply. Attend both Face-to-face Sessions Dates: Wednesdays, April 10 and May 8, 2019. Hours: 1:00 – 4:00 PM each day Registration/application deadline is Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Notification of acceptance will occur by Wednesday, March 27, 2019.
